Operation: Diocles Guide

Complete this Operation to progress the seasonal storyline and complete a Seasonal Challenge.

Destiny 2's Season of the Seraph has weekly story missions called Operations that take Guardians through various Seraph bunker facilities. Sneak through an array of powerful Seraph towers, descend into the heart of the bunker, and clear out Xivu Arath's forces to progress the seasonal storyline and acquire some new items.

The second Operation this season is Operation: Diocles. Guardians will need to infiltrate a launch control facility and break Hive crystals to retrieve sensitive data. While this should be a straightforward mission for most players, the final boss can be confusing if you missed the Broodhold strike back in Forsaken. This short guide will showcase how to beat the second Operation mission in Season of the Seraph and how to kill this Operation's unique boss.

Similar to last week's mission, your goal is to infiltrate a facility on the opposite end of where you spawned. Jump down toward your right and sneak past the Seraph towers, defeating any Hive enemies that stand in your way. You're looking for any cover here. Hide near rocks, cliff faces, overhangs, anything you can find to avoid getting destroyed.

You'll eventually find the entrance to the launch control facility. Make your way inside the air ducts and get inside. You'll find numerous defense systems inside, mostly lasers. Touching these lasers will instantly kill you, so try your best to avoid them. You can slide under most of them and come out unscathed, but any lasers close to the ground must be carefully jumped over.

Further into the facility, you'll find a small group of Xivu Arath's forces and a passageway blocked by Hive runes. Your goal is to defeat the enemies guarding the path and destroy any Hive crystals you see. Each area has three crystals you'll need to destroy before the runes dissipate. Kill the adds, defeat any majors, and break the crystals to make your way deeper into the bunker. Once you reach the final room, plant a Rally Flag and reload all your weapons.

Inside this bunker are two witches, named Scourges of Xivu Arath. If you played Destiny 2 during Forsaken or the Solstice event, this is a repeat of the Brood Mother fight. Before you fight the witches, kill the adds first. Tons of Hive will swarm the arena right as you walk in, so killing them first will make avoiding the boss' attacks much easier. The boss itself behaves as you'd expect, pelting you with hard-hitting projectiles from a distance. Use a Linear Fusion Rifle and aim for the head, or close the gap with a Sword or Glaive.

Flame Screech

During the encounter, one of the brood queens will begin to project a flaming aura around the arena. Block line of sight from the brood queen to avoid the attack. You only have a few seconds to find cover before she releases the fire wave, so be swift.

Upon losing half of her total health, the boss will project an immunity shield around itself. You must break three Hive crystals to make the boss vulnerable again. These crystals become destructible upon clearing out the nearby adds. Roaming Supers, subclass abilities, and your favorite Primary workhorse should handle this part fine. When done, break the crystals and focus on killing the witch duo. Focus on one witch at a time, and don't be afraid to use your Heavy ammo and Super at this point. Defeat both witches and download the bunker data to finish the mission.
