When WAP came out, it instantly became the anthem of the summer. The song was highly criticized by conservatives calling it "sexist" and "misogynistic." Despite the criticism, women worldwide continued to tap into their "hot girl shit" and proudly sang along to the unapologetic lyrics. Megan and Cardi had empowered thousands that summer. However, Megan was dealing with the emotional turmoil of being a victim of gun violence. Her attacker continued to taunt her throughout that summer - manipulating a narrative in an attempt to make her powerless. "There were times I’d be backstage or in my hotel, crying my eyes out, and then I’d have to pull Megan Pete together and be Megan Thee Stallion." As described in her op-ed with ELLE Magazine.

Since then, Megan has deeply intended to focus on her mental health and healing. She told ELLE, "I am a survivor, and I have - and will continue - to embrace the highs and lows of my journey." As a child survivor of domestic violence, I am moved by Megan's strength to continue forward in the public eye. Megan's story shows that everyone deserves to heal, regardless of whether others believe their trauma. Healing is a step forward to power, so here's a guide to stepping into your power after a traumatic experience.

A support system to help remove you from a toxic environment can bring ease. The National Domestic Violence Hotline supports domestic violence victims 24/7 and 365 days a year. Its mission is to provide victims with essential tools and support so they can move forward from domestic situations. Call experts are required to keep all information confidential. They are also trained to treat each situation with compassion offering an array of referral services in over 200 languages.

We understand that a safe environment is essential when wanting to take a step forward on your healing journey. The Safe Sisters Circle is a non-profit organization providing safe shelter for Black women in toxic environments. Safe Sisters will step in as your big sis helping victims obtain protection orders, receive legal representation, and provide legal advocacy because every Black woman deserves to be protected. They also offer holistic services like housing therapy, groceries, and compensation.

The Sanctuary is where true healing begins. Tarana Burke created this self-healing platform to aid survivors in their healing journeys. The healing guide covers three areas: mind, body, and soul. There's a wide selection of healing lessons ranging from 5 to 25 minutes, making healing manageable for even the busiest baddies. We encourage you to tap into the healing room on the website to access the healing playlist, journaling prompts, and activities to explore.

Journaling is a powerful and mostly free tool to enter your healing era. If you’re struggling to find the words in your healing journey, how about using journaling prompts? Journaling prompts are a great way to find the answers to questions we avoid about ourselves. Addie Rawr offers a journal of 100 thoughtful and empowering prompts for Black Women. The journaling prompt book heavily focuses on self-love and self-appreciation, helping you tap into your highest self.

The words we speak can speak power into our existence. Jhené Aiko knows the power of words all too well. She has created a powerful mantra soundtrack called Alive and Well. The mantra soundtrack is only a piece of her holistic healing brand ALLEL. Jhené's brand also offers jewelry that provides healing and intention. Crystal sound bowls are also an addition to the site. The sound bowls provide a frequency to heal parts of our body with harmonic patterns.

Sometimes we all need to sit with ourselves and block out the noise. Meditation is a great way to come back to center when healing gets to be a little loud. Taking as little as 5 minutes of stillness can have significant mental health benefits. Daily meditation has proven to help us remain in the present moment, reduce stress and anxiety, and make us more aware of ourselves. There are plenty of free guided meditations on Youtube to help quiet your mind and live free lives.

Talking to our friends and family can make it tough to say how we’re really feeling. Talking to a therapist allows us to discuss how healing is really going without judgment freely. Therapy For Black Girls was founded by Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, whose mission was to provide an online space for Black women to heal. Dr. Joy's platform offers a wide range of online and in-person therapists. There is also the Sisters Circle - an online community of Black women providing you with a community and the freedom of being yourself.

Let's be honest; escaping to somebody's island and forgetting about our problems can seem like a dream. That dream can be a reality with Healing Retreat For Black Women. Satya founded this retreat after leaving her life in New York and traveling to Costa Rica. She fell in love with Costa Rica's lush country and allowed herself to enter her healing era. Since then, she's provided healing space for Black women to feel safe and seen. Healing For Black Women provides yoga, workshops, shadow work, and meditation for experts to offer a premium experience to your healing journey.
