Hogwarts Legacy's vast world is full of fascinating puzzles called Merlin Trials. Here's how to solve each of them.

It's important to remember the ongoing controversial statements by the creator of the Harry Potter franchise. CBR supports the hard work of industry professionals on properties fans know and love, and the wider world of Harry Potter that fans have adopted as their own. Hogwarts Legacy is filled with quests and puzzles outside the main quest line. Some of these can be found throughout the map and are known as Merlin Trials. These puzzles come in nine variations and can vary in difficulty within each category.

According to Hogwarts Legacy, the legendary Merlin was a Slytherin who created 85 Merlin Trials as a diversion for other students of his house. Thankfully, players can access these regardless of which House they are sorted into. The trials unlock fairly early in the game by making progress in the main story, and completing them allows players to expand their gear inventory. Here's how to solve every kind of Merlin Trial.

To unlock the Merlin Trials, players will need to talk to Nora Treadwell. She can be found after finishing "The Girl from Uagadou" quest in which the player speaks with Natty following the troll encounter at Hogsmeade. This starts a new quest called "Trials of Merlin," and one only needs to follow Nora's shouting to locate her after talking to Natty. The quest will guide the player through their first Trial and how to access them using Mallowsweet, a reasonably accessible herb that can be purchased in Hogsmeade or grown in either the Greenhouses or the Room of Requirement.

The first Merlin Trial players will encounter is lighting braziers. While this initial encounter does not have the braziers on a timer, the following ones will. Players will need access to the spell Incendio though Confringo works even better due to its range. Three braziers need to be lit before sinking into the ground, so players will want to first locate all of their positions, then light the slowest and tallest one first. The further out the braziers are, the quicker the player will need to be, as some of these pillars can be pretty far away. Being talented with a broomstick can be extremely helpful.

The next challenge is relatively simple and does not require a particular spell. After activating the trial, players will need to destroy multiple orbs in the trial area, which are fragile enough to shatter using just the primary attack. The most challenging part of this quest is locating all of the balls (typically nine). Casting Revelio will cause the orbs to glow, so upgrading that spell to increase its range will help with this Trial. Players will know when they have blasted the final orb as the trial will close without needing to return to the starting point.

The third kind of challenge players can encounter features large stones that shoot out of the ground. From there, players will have to find where they can climb onto the pillars, either starting with a short pillar or finding a nearby jumping-off point. Once on top of the first pillar, players must parkour their way from one end of the pillars to the other without falling off. Should the player hit the ground, the challenge starts over. As each pillar is activated, it will receive a botanical glow that solidifies at the end of the challenge.

One of the most challenging types of Merlin Trials, symbol cubes require players to have unlocked the spell Flipendo. In these Trials, there will be two cubes will be stacked on one another with the top piece movable. Players must maneuver the top block until the image with an arrow matches the bottom block with the arrows going in the same direction. This is not possible by repeatedly standing in the same place. Instead, players need to move around the block and cast Flipendo in the direction they need the block to move, which is easiest done using the focus feature to ensure there is no rotation mistake.

This is a two-part trial where players first need to find a group of five spheres to transfer to a stone plate in the ground with four holes. Each Trial features multiple stone plates, and the spheres may be hidden behind walls. Using Revelio will help locate them. Once found, the player must use Accio on one of the spheres; the rest will follow. After guiding them to the plate, the spheres will group themselves to complete the set.

One of the easiest Merlin Trials a player will encounter, this challenge features multiple blocks that appear around the trial area. This is similar to the orb destruction, though with items that are much easier to locate due to their size and a bit more difficult to destroy. These stones have green spots on them, and they can be highlighted using Revelio. The easiest way to destroy the stones is to cast Confringo, which will explode the rock in one shot. Players can also use their basic attack, but it will take multiple attempts to destroy the fractured stone.

This is one of the simplest Trials. Once activated, multiple statutes will appear and fracture before the player's eyes. All they need to do is use Reparo on the crumbled pieces of the statue to restore them to their initial state. Like with other trials, players can use Revelio to highlight the broken pieces.

One of the biggest head-scratchers at first glance, this trial features three hollow pillars with crystals inside that look similar to Moonstone. The trial is easier to complete at night, as it helps the player find the critical component to this trial: moths. Players need to use Lumos to lead a group of glowing green moths back to the stones, being careful not to end the spell by climbing. Using Revelio will highlight the hollow stones themselves. The moths are sometimes located behind nearby destroyable walls or near large groupings of plant life like bushes or trees.

Almost like an odd version of wizard golf, the final kind of Merlin Trial players will encounter features a giant stone ball they need to maneuver to a large pit in the ground. Usually, the ball will be at the top of a hill, helping to lead the player to where it needs to go. There are a couple of ways to approach this Trial. The player can use a combination of Levioso to levitate the ball, then maneuver it with Accio or Depulso, which can be a little tricky. Those who are further along in the story can use Wingardium Leviosa, which makes it much easier to transport the ball.
