CES 2023 Best Products: Billboard’s Favorite Innovations

Scouring the annual Consumer Electronics Show for the best in gear is a painstaking pursuit that takes place over four days in Las Vegas. This year marked the gathering's first full return since 2020, and 115,000 attendees converged from all over the world at the Los Vegas Convention Center and beyond.

Top trends Billboard spotted include major advancements in wireless electronics, including televisions, useful and lightweight VR and AR applications and devices; major digital advancements from automotive manufacturers; and a whole slew of gadgets aimed at tracking, monitoring and improving health and well-being.

While it's impossible to see it all — and even more difficult to figure out what will actually make it into consumers’ hands — this comprehensive list represents the innovations Billboard loved best, that we think, in the short term or long term, will make our work better and our lives more enjoyable.

Electric vehicle charging will be more convenient now that an Alexa-enabled EV charging feature is underway. EVgo, one of the nation's largest fast-charging networks, has partnered with Amazon to help drivers find, navigate and pay for their charging sessions. The voice-initiated service connects EV drivers to real-time station availability for more than 150,000 public charging stations in America. Customers with Alexa-enabled automotive devices and the vehicle accessory Echo Auto will be able to locate the nearest EVgo charging station and pay using simple voice commands later this year.

Why We Love It: Alexa for EV charging is a fast, easy and convenient solution to reducing "range anxiety." This will make EV charging stations more accessible when EV drivers are in a pinch.

Augmented reality glasses are an ever-evolving entity, and its latest innovation realizes the potential for elevated experiences through the TCL RayNeo X2 smart glasses. The micro-LED optimal waveguide display creates a plane of visual splendor. Multiple features constitute the tech, housing filming capabilities with an added "whisper" music component for incognito jam sessions.

To incorporate full functionality, calling and messaging services promote a safe, hands-free experience.

Why We Love It: Wearers can hold conversations in several languages with the live translation services the glasses provide. Spoken conversation will be read on the lenses in the user's preferred language.

Multisensory tech integrated with scent capabilities is on the horizon for OVR Technology's newest product. The company showcased the ION 3 at CES, a wearable attachment compatible with VR headsets and other audio hardware. Using Scentware, the ION 3 cartridge is capable of producing several thousand smell combinations. The experience is not one that perfectly replicates the physical world, but it creates brand-new, unique smells to heighten immersion.

Why We Love It: The potential to reach audiences through scent technology is made possible through Bluetooth connectivity. Engineered to help content creators craft matching aromas for their media, the scents also can be saved for future use.

Focal's latest line of speakers is immediately recognized by the beautiful design presented in leather and wood finishes all around. Vestia floor-standing speakers were engineered to appease the listener, featuring a signature Aluminum/Magnesium alloy comprising the inverted cone-shaped tam tweeters. As the only floorstanding speaker containing three separate bass speaker drivers, Vestia N°3 is joined by the N°2 and N°4 speakers in a five-part collection.

Prominently demoed at a CES pop-up outside Park MGM, which is home to the Dolby Live theater, Mercedes-Benz in-car audio is the first non-Apple device to offer Dolby Atmos for Mercedes from Apple Music natively in a vehicle. The collaboration, in partnership with Universal Music Group and Apple Music, creates the perfect harmony between hardware, sound experience, music content and streaming platform in the optional Burmester high-end 4D and 3D sound system offered in Mercedes‑Benz vehicles.

Why We Love It: We demoed both Elton John and Tiesto tracks, and the different styles of music give a completely different listening experience for a concert on wheels. Creators place discrete audio elements or objects in a three-dimensional sound field, adding more space, clarity and depth to music. The playback offers the clarity that matches the artist's original vision in the studio. The Burmester High-End 4D sound system uses speaker-like resonators featuring sound massage with surround speakers integrated into the seats.

And since more than 70% of music consumers state they listen to music mostly in a car, UMG is enabling their recording artists to base their song-approval process on how the final mix sounds in a Mercedes‑Benz and introduce the "Approved in a Mercedes‑Benz" seal as a gold standard of sound.

Ring is creating peace of mind with its latest Car Cam, Live View allows for Two-Way Talk to be activated when the Car Cam is connected to a home Wi-Fi network, to facilitate communication between user and vehicle. Downloading the Ring App not only provides access to this feature, but allows drivers to keep tabs on the car's safety through Anti-Tampering recording capabilities. The camera also features a GPS system.

Why We Love It: Peace of mind from this dual-facing camera keeps vehicles safe any time of day, whether the car is moving or parked.

German beauty brand GESKE is using the foresight of connected beauty tech to create a line of products that are truly tailor-made to individuals. Products range from vibrating rollers to laser hair combs that encourage growth. An exclusive line of Hello Kitty skin scrubbers, blackhead removers, warm & cool masks and more will also hit digital shelves. Each piece connects to an app downloadable from the Apple store and Google Play, which plays a role in guiding users to finding their perfect skincare journey.

Why We Love It: AI-incorporated tech takes the tools far away from a one size fits all skincare approach.

The Fufuly relaxation robot simulates the natural cadence of human breathing, working to steady shallow breaths and restore respiratory rhythm. Inducing the effects of this "deep breathing technology" can increase productivity, promote better sleep quality and simply calm the nerves. Yukai Engineering, a Japanese company that specializes in "lifestyle robots," collaborated with Tokyo University to pioneer the design that brings "rhythmical synchronization" to anyone that gives a Fufuly a prolonged squeeze.

Why We Love It: Aside from an adorable design, the Fufuly robot pillow is the soft, approachable model that is activated with the flick of a switch. Three modes can be activated for different purposes.

A new autonomous car prototype was showcased at CES 2023, pioneered by the powerhouse partnership of Sony and Honda. Afeela is a sleek and streamlined electric vehicle concept that will incorporate the cutting edge of virtual and augmented reality, AI and Sony's signature entertainment prowess in a stylish sedan. This partnership holds great promise, as prerders are slated to open up in two years’ time.

Why We Love It: As an EV from Honda and Sony — whose presence in the automotive industry existed exclusively in prototype models prior to 2023 — the pair will focus on three concepts: autonomy, augmentation and affinity.

Over 26 hours of play time, waterproof features and dependable noise cancellation performance make the Motorola Moto Buds 600 ANC a crowd favorite. The compact design uses Snapdragon SoundTM to produce epic audio, whether through music or Clear Voice Calls that eliminate background noise for clear conversation. The product will come in two colors upon release and will feature touch controls on the case and hands-free charging.

Why We Love It: These premium earbuds can now be purchased on their own, instead of as a bundle with other Motorola products.

Announced at CES 2023, Motorola brought a new cell phone model to the forefront of the market, as a business tool reminiscent of the brand's signature ThinkPad. Motorola's ThinkPhone is optimized for safety and security using AI threat prevention, through Moto Self Defense and its adjacent app. Moguls and tech fans will be clamoring to get their hands on this model, which comes with a TurboPower charging port for lightning-fast refuels.

Why We Love It: ThinkPhones are ultra-compatible with Motorola's existing ThinkPad with its Think 2 Think capabilities. The two devices can share files, provide hotspots and connect to Wi-Fi simultaneously.

Mevo Pro is a new subscription plan that provides creators with multicam streaming and recording. The creator app can be used on either iOS or Android phones to stream and record multicamera videos in 1080p HD resolution. This is a handy way to capture live events, sports games and music performances. This is an ideal way to send video, audio and screencasts because no additional hardware is necessary.

Why We Love It: The Mevo Multicam app offers the quickest and smoothest way to incorporate new angles to creators’ stories. This is a must-have for social media creatives looking to boost their material with minimal effort.

Samsung pulls another trick out of its bag by presenting the Freestyle With Smart Edge Blending. From playing video games to watching movie marathons, this Samsung device essentially consists of two projectors that automatically synchronize to provide a massive image to create a portable cinemascape.

Although it's similar to the company's previous model, the latest version includes Samsung's smart TV platform and its Gaming Hub, which is a nice addition to its already impressive portable entertainment system. Access to major gaming services such as XBox Cloud Gaming, Amazon Luna, and NVIDIA GeForce Now for cloud gaming may also be available.

Why We Love It: The Freestyle projectors provide an ultrawide display with a 21:9 ratio. This is an immersive way to play video game favorites like Fortnite. Plus, it's portable and small, which makes it easy to carry.

Movano Health announced its new wearable, Evie, made of polished aluminum and shown in three different finishes. Unlike others in the category, Movano touts the Evie as the first medical-grade smart ring designed for women, addressing their health needs at various stages of life. Evie combines health and wellness metrics to give a full picture of one's health: resting heart rate, heart rate variability, SpO2, respiration rate, skin temperature variability, period and ovulation tracking, menstrual symptom tracking, activity profile, including steps, active minutes and, calories burned, sleep stages and duration, and mood tracking. Movano is seeking FDA clearance on the ring's heart rate, SpO2 and respiration rate data to verify it as a true medical device.

Why We Love It: Like other ring-style wearables, it tracks sleep, and while it's always fascinating to see how little rest we get, Evie doesn't require a monthly subscription to access its app. Information is also presented in a simple, user-friendly way with actionable insights. Plus, it can draw the conclusion between how we feel and why we feel that way, with the FDA's blessing. Movano also has secured numerous patents on their non-invasive sensor technology and other advancements so it can be integrated into future products.

Bartesian makes it easier than ever to become a hosting savant. This cocktail maker is a past recipient of the 2020 CES Innovation award, and secured partnerships with major hospitality venues, sports stadiums and commercial properties in 2022. Known for its compact design and tamper-proof locking mechanism, the Bartesian Professional has adjustable dials for cocktail strength and size.

Why We Love It: A water tank reservoir of 1.5 liters allows for cocktails to be crafted in bulk quantities — totaling dozens of drinks — eliminating wait times for large groups.

Roland's 50th anniversary concept piece was presented at CES in the form of a digital piano that incorporates Bluetooth technology to spread crystalline sound around any room. A collection of "speaker balls" emit 360-degree sound directed outward for optimal audio quality. Impressive still is the appearance, with the instrument showcasing a curved wooden framework supporting the keyboard and touch panel for a modern look.

Why We Love It: Although still in development, matching drones will add a futuristic element of mobility to sound direction, so the piano's music is unencumbered by traditional stationary speakers.

Work meetings and virtual reality combine to create the first face-to-face communication in a virtual space with Kokomo. Developed by Canon, the virtual reality software makes it easy for users to share their own image, facial expression and clothing. Use the Kokomo app through VR headsets and compatible smartphones to chat with co-workers anywhere in the world.

Why We Love It: It's easy to use and creates an "immersive call" experience. With more people working remotely, Kokomo offers a more personable way to communicate with people around the globe. It's also an exciting new way to have face-to-face conversations for frequent travelers.

The Metaverse continues to provide new ways to integrate immersive multimedia into social networks. The Volumetric Capture for the Metaverse uses cameras to take photos of real-world spaces and visitors are able to be transported across virtual locations as needed in real-time. The future of internet communities is headed into a direction centered on hyper realistic visuals and creating quality videos. From all angles, cameras shoot a series of photos and graphic processors stitch the photos into a 3D mesh. In an instant, people can record themselves in virtual and augmented reality worlds by using mixed reality headsets.

Why We Love It: Volumetric Capture will elevate virtual production by having the ability to import real humans into it. Potentially, it will enhance flexibility for content creators because they can frame their shots in the post.

Tech startup Verses is redefining music in the metaverse as AI. In this virtual space, music fans are capable of interacting with musicians and actively creating music with them. This opens doors to new ways to explore a music-themed virtual space. Not only is it a space where musicians and fans can collaborate, but it is also a creative environment where AI can produce unique music influenced by the users’ tastes. The Meta Music System also gives users the opportunity to share their own original songs and NFTs within its online community.

Why We Love It: The Meta Music System gives creatives another way to reach and build their audience. It also serves as a great tool for networking with other artists.

Japanese sound and music company Vie Style Co. is stretching traditional music capabilities by tapping into the epicenter of audio absorption. Different from traditional headphones, ear tips tune into brain wave activity and analyze the activity during active music listening. Beyond the initial diagnosis, Vie Zone takes fluctuating levels of stress, fatigue and other factors, all trackable through the adjoining app.

The design is still in its Kickstarter phase, with other products like Vie Petit earbuds for smaller ears accentuating this touchstone innovation.

Why We Love It: The minimalist design is engineered with antibacterial silicone for optimal comfort.

The ULED X line's calling card is a heightened LED experience, creating unparalleled quality backed by 20k LED lights on a Hisense Hi-View Engine X chipset.

The sound quality is projected through the Hisense CineStage X, the brand's upgraded audio-visual sound marvel that turns any area into a movie theater or sports arena. Seven speakers work in conjunction with Dolby Atmos spatial sound features across a 4.1.2 multi-channel audio system. An all-encompassing design features extended battery life for audio only, and 4-hour audio and air purification periods. The filters are mounted in the earphones, which also houses microphones that block outside noise and a full audio spectrum setup for quality listening.

Why We Love It: To keep a clean operation running, the MyDyson app keeps track of sound and air pollution, along with general noise levels. Advanced settings tell users when to replace air filters in the hardware.

Kohler Smart Home Innovations debuted its Smart Stillness Bath at CES 2021, where it has continued to receive accolades for striking the ultimate sensory balance for relaxation. Soft lighting and the sound of running water spilling into the grated moat below create a soothing environment.

Why We Love It: Voice activations can control many of the tub's functions. Fill the bathtub to a preferred level, turn on the steam, adjust the temperature and turn on the aromatherapy from the ease of audio commands.

Unstoppable Women of Web3 — or Unstoppable WoW3 — is leveling the playing field for women in the Web3 industry. Coming off the recently-launched initiative, accessible web materials in the form of educational videos, classes and resources to push for diversity in this modern tech space. Several minds came together to host a Web3 Equality Lounge and hosted panel at CES 2023, where hundreds of participants tuned in to share a love of blockchain innovation and the future of the Metaverse.

Why We Love It: Completing the certification grants female students their own NFT — along with domain credits — for use in their blooming careers.

Sylvox debuted its durable line of outdoor TVs at CES 2023. Waterproof and sun-resistant both fully and partially, the named "Private Outdoor Cinema" handles the elements on all fronts, including extreme temperatures protected by aluminum metal casing. Bluetooth audio creates a cinematic experience, while retractable wall brackets give an element of mobility to the sturdy wall unit, allowing for flexibility of use that

Why We Love It: The SYLVOX Mini QLED outdoor waterproof TV has a special element to its extreme durability — a soaking-wet CES display exhibited the models ability to float in bodies of water.

Brane X speakers break the laws of sound in a big way. Using a Repel-Attract-Driver — or R.A.D — the limitations of ear-thumping bass are broken, creating depth of volume that only heavy-duty sound systems could formerly produce. Brane achieved this by adjusting the internal pressure through a magnetized force that dispels the need for a massive speaker to play deep bass sounds. It can be controlled through an app and is waterproof.

Why We Love It: As a true mini subwoofer, Brane X weighs less than 8 pounds.

GoPro's Hero Black collection has a new family member — the Hero11 Black Mini — that began shipping weeks before CES 2023. The HERO11 Black Mini is a lighter, more compact version of the flagship collection pieces, perfect for capturing action video footage on a device weighing less than half a pound. When plugged in, the HERO11 Mini automatically uploads footage to cloud storage during charges.

Italian smart lighting brand Twinkly is bringing new innovations beyond CES in 2023. Its desktop Entertainment Hub marries visual and audio immersion with an integrated light show.

The desktop hardware uses RGBfy synchronization to match up with on-screen visuals, tapping into the user's keyboard to make instant changes to the hues displayed. Showcased alongside its recently launched Twinkly Squares, another compact future favorite, Twinkly Candies, were brought in for a sneak peek.

Why We Love It: Twinkly products maintain compatibility with the help of accurate audio synchronization. Any audio and visual component is receptive to a light display that enhances the gaming experience.

Launched at CES 2022, MoonBikes, the world's first electric snow bike — silent with zero emissions — became a rapid-fire sensation with cold weather sports enthusiasts. At one-third the size of the average snowmobile, MoonBikes attract those who love e-bikes yet want the power of a motorcycle. This year at CES, MoonBikes announced the debut of the Connected MoonBikes App.

The future of fashion has arrived with Snap's Magic Mirror. Snapchat and Accenture teamed up to provide interactive experiences for shoppers using augmented reality. Fit technology embedded in the mirror makes it easy to try on clothes and accessories before buying them. Plus, it's an effective way for social media influencers to incorporate themselves into big ad campaigns, animate themselves and use augmented reality throughout a multitude of businesses.

Why We Love It: This latest social media integration has the potential to lower retail returns and boost conversion rates. This will be an ideal opportunity for businesses to create a one-of-a-kind experience that will provide viable business value to the consumer.

LG's MoodUP Refrigerator is more than a storage vessel. This smart fridge has color-changing LED panels — over 40 from top to bottom — covering the front, along with a Bluetooth speaker that can sync up to cloud-based voice-activated services like Google Amazon Alexa. To reinforce the intelligent features, the model will also contain voice recognition.

This year at CES, the party-friendly smart fridge debuted a new color to add to its vibrant rainbow roster — Viva Magenta — in collaboration with the Pantone Color Institute.

Why We Love It: Over 190,000 color combinations are possible, all changeable from the ThinQ app.

While Samsung debuted three new soundbars at CES 2023 — the HW-S800B, HW-Q990C and HW-G60C, respectively — the lengthy HW-Q990C takes the favorite slot for its upgraded features. Two back speakers and wireless subwoofer adorn nine audio channels. Samsung continues to build on its existing tech — improving on the current versions, like Q-Symphony — to delegate dialogue and soundtracks between the soundbars and surround sound speakers accompanying TVs. Dolby Atmos audio is offered through the HW-Q990C.

Why We Love It: Attention to detail through AI Sound Remastering sharpens voices and audio components for a remastering renaissance.

Hatch, a company that has provided sleep aid to millions of families, has released Restore 2, a newer version of its adult sleep product. The company's sleep-aid products are backed by science and inspired by nature.
